The short version: PollenPath has no servers, so we never receive your data. Your symptoms stay on your device, in Apple Health and in your own iCloud. We don't track you, we don't run analytics, and we don't sell your data.
This Privacy Policy describes how PollenPath ("we," "our," or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using PollenPath, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Health Data (Apple HealthKit)
PollenPath reads and writes allergy symptom data (type, severity, timestamps, optional notes) through Apple HealthKit.
- Symptoms from the app's built-in list are stored in Apple Health on your device.
- Symptoms you create yourself and your daily check-ins are stored in the app. If iCloud is on, they sync to your other devices through your own private iCloud database, which we can't read.
- Health data is never sent to us or to any third-party service.
- Health data is never used for advertising or marketing purposes.
- You control which HealthKit data types the app can access through iOS Settings.
1.2 Location Data
PollenPath requests "When In Use" location permission to provide local pollen, air quality, and weather data.
- Before your location is sent to Google's pollen and air quality services, it is rounded to one decimal place (about 11 km).
- Apple's WeatherKit (for the weather) and Apple's geocoder (for your city's name) receive your device's location. Apple handles it under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- The app stores only the rounded location. If iCloud is on, it syncs to your own iCloud.
- We never receive your location. It is used only to look up conditions where you are.
1.3 App Data
PollenPath stores the following on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework:
- Your display name (optional) and allergen preferences
- Daily pollen, air quality, and weather records for your area, kept for up to 365 days (see Section 7.1)
- Generated insights and trend analysis results
- Alert preferences and notification settings
- Subscription status
If iCloud is on, everything above except your subscription status syncs across your devices through your own private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit), together with the custom symptoms and check-ins from Section 1.1. Your subscription status stays on the device.
1.4 Purchase Information
Subscription purchases are managed entirely by Apple through StoreKit 2. We store only your subscription tier and expiration date locally for feature access. We do not have access to your payment information.
2. How We Use Your Information
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Health data | Display symptom history, generate on-device insights, detect correlations with environmental data |
| Coarse location | Retrieve local pollen levels, air quality index, and weather conditions |
| App preferences | Personalize your experience and sync across devices |
| Subscription status | Unlock premium features based on your plan |
All machine learning analysis (trend detection, correlation analysis, trigger identification) runs entirely on your device using Apple's Core ML framework and, where available, Apple Intelligence's on-device model. No health or personal data is sent to cloud-based AI services.
3. Third-Party Services
PollenPath uses the following services. Each receives only what it needs:
| Service | Data Sent | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Pollen API | Location rounded to about 11 km | Pollen index and species data | Google Privacy Policy |
| Google Air Quality API | Location rounded to about 11 km | Air quality index and pollutant data | Google Privacy Policy |
| Apple WeatherKit | Your device's location | Weather conditions | Apple Privacy Policy |
| Apple geocoder | Your device's location | Your city's name | Apple Privacy Policy |
| Apple CloudKit (your private iCloud database) | The app data in Section 1.3, custom symptoms and check-ins | Cross-device sync | Apple Privacy Policy |
| Apple StoreKit 2 | Purchase transactions | Subscription management | Apple Privacy Policy |
We do not use any advertising networks, analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, or data brokers.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Data is shared only as described in Section 3 (third-party services necessary for app functionality) and as required by law.
5. Tracking
PollenPath does not track you. Specifically:
- We do not access the Advertising Identifier (IDFA)
- We do not use any cross-app or cross-site tracking
- We do not include any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs
- We do not create user profiles for advertising
6. Data Security
- Health data is protected by Apple HealthKit's hardware-level encryption
- App data is stored in Apple's SwiftData framework with standard iOS data protection
- CloudKit data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- API calls to Google services use HTTPS encryption
- No servers of our own. Apart from the rounded location sent to Google (Section 3), your data stays with Apple
7. Data Retention & Deletion
7.1 Automatic Expiry
- Daily pollen, air quality, and weather records are deleted after 365 days.
- The full air quality reading is deleted after 1 hour. The daily values stay in the record.
- Pollen forecasts for other days are deleted after 24 hours.
7.2 Deleting Your Data
- Health data: Manage via iOS Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > PollenPath. You can revoke access or delete specific records.
- Your history: PollenPath Settings > Delete All History removes the symptoms PollenPath wrote to Apple Health, your custom symptoms and your check-ins, on this device and in iCloud. Pollen, air quality, and weather records are deleted on the schedule in Section 7.1.
- Reinstallation: Deleting the app removes all local data. iCloud data can be removed via iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage.
- Subscriptions: Manage or cancel via the App Store. Apple handles all subscription billing data.
8. Children's Privacy
PollenPath is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation and stores health data only in Apple HealthKit under the device owner's control.
9. International Users
PollenPath operates without centralized servers. Your data is stored on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, in Apple's data centers according to Apple's Privacy Policy. Rounded location sent to Google's APIs is processed according to Google's Privacy Policy.
For European Users (GDPR)
- Legal basis: Consent (you choose to grant HealthKit and location permissions) and legitimate interest (providing app functionality)
- Data minimization: We collect only what is necessary for the app to function
- Right to access: All your data is visible within the app and Apple Health
- Right to deletion: See Section 7.2
- Right to portability: Export health data via Apple Health's built-in export feature
For California Users (CCPA)
- We do not sell your personal information
- We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- You have the right to know, delete, and opt out — see Section 7.2 for deletion instructions
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
